SUMMER TRAINING

The key to success in Cross Country is SUMMER RUNNING.  The main goal of our summer program is to safely accumulate as much mileage as possible in order to increase our fitness and prepare us for the fall season.  Your season will be much, much more successful (and painless) if you put in your time over the summer.  Many injuries happen early in the XC season (shin splints being #1) because runners will jump into a training program without putting in the base work during the summer.

A few notes on our summer training program.

  • Consistency is the key to summer running.  You should be running 5-6 days per week.

  • We will get together 2-3 times per week as a team starting the second week of June.  Our training sessions will usually occur at area parks (Foothill, Shiloh, Riverfront).  If you are in town and available, I hope you'll attend as many of these as possible.  Not only will you get better, but you'll have a chance to meet your teammates.
