NCS Championship Meet

DATE:  11/23/19
COURSE:  Hayward HS 3-Mile Course

WEATHER:  Cool, overcast

The Windsor Cross Country team put capper on their season with a fantastic performance at the NCS meet on Saturday in Hayward.  Both teams finished 9th, marking the best performances in the 20-plus year history of the programs.  Additionally, senior Hunter Larson earned a 15th place finish to become the fourth Windsor male to earn a spot on the CIF State Championship meet in Fresno.

GIRLS:  While the girls team had finished as high as 9th (every year from 2008 to 2011, in fact), this year's cumulative time of 1:42:35 was the best in school history by over two minutes.  That time was good enough for third in the Redwood Empire, topping rivals from Montgomery, Santa Rosa, Piner, and Analy.

Lilja Chung turned in a marvelous performance, running the course in 18:41 and earning herself the #2 mark on the all-time WHS list.  While her finish of 16th place would have been good enough for a spot at state in most years, but as it turned out, the majority of runners ahead of her belonged to teams that didn't advance, knocking her from qualification.

Nataleigh Johnson also ran one of her best races of the season, just missing out on her first sub-20:00 race.  Erin O'Mara, Ava Smith, and Prissilla Tucker rounded out the scoring team while Jayda Pignataro and Erika Hovland were displacers.

BOYS:  As they've done all season, Hunter Larson, Dustin Smith, and Landon McAlister led the way for the Jaguars.  Larson snuck into the 4th automatic qualifying spot while the other two just missed out.  As a team, the Jags were one of only three in the race to place a trio in the top 21.

The remaining four also did a great job with everybody coming in under 18:00.  Max Hidalgo, moved up to varsity for the first time, ran a PR of 17:37 and he was followed closely by Kevin Manni, Tallen Theiss, and Steven Vail.
