NBL Championship Meet

DATE:  11/9/19
COURSE:  Spring Lake 3.05-Mile Course

WEATHER:  Cool, overcast

The Windsor Cross Country team confirmed their two-year dominance of the North Bay League Redwood Division on Saturday by winning the league championship meet at Spring Lake in Santa Rosa.  While the boys one easily, the girls used a great team performance to hold of Analy by two points.

JUNIOR VARSITY BOYS:  Unfortunately the JV Boys race was messed up when a wrong turn was taken by the entire field.  In the end, Analy took the title, but we found that several Windsor boys ran longer than the rest.  It was an unfortunate mistake.  Max Hidalgo did earn the individual crown, however.

VARSITY BOYS: The Jaguars' Big Three of Hunter Larson, Dustin Smith, and Landon McAlister ran three-wide the whole way, securing a comfortable win for the team.  Smith got the individual victory, making him the first WHS runner to ever win a league championship meet (while the Jags won the title last year, the actual meet was canceled and the banner was awarded for dual meet supremacy).  Steven Vail and Kevin Manni also earned top ten finishes while Tallen Theiss placed 12th.  It was pointed out after the meet that the Windsor boys would have beaten the entire league combined.  Their score of 25 outdistanced Analy (63), Cardinal Newman (73), El Molino (101), Rancho Cotate (124), and Elsie Allen (136).

VARSITY GIRLS:  Running without their #2 and #3, the Windsor girls knew they'd be in for a battle with another talented squad, the Analy Tigers.  After one mile, Analy led by four points.  After two, the Jaguars had pulled even, and by the end of the race, the girls in black and gold had pulled away for the narrowest of wins.  Lilja Chung ran to a second place finish, just ahead of Nataleigh Johnson, who went from 6th to 3rd over the final two miles in her best race of the season.  Ava Smith (8th), Jayda Pignataro (12th), Prissilla Tucker (14th), and Dafne Cruz (16th) were also crucial in a race where every single runner did the job they needed to do.
